October 31st, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Events, Hawaii, Honolulu Advertiser Posts, Random

BOO! Happy Halloween y’all! Since today is that spe-sho goulish time of the year, let’s kick it off with our list of Fave Five Halloween costumes. They don’t necessarily have to be ones you’ve worn (or will wear)… Let’s go with a list that may contain any of the following: hot ones from the opposite sex, funniest ones you’ve seen in the past, ones you think you’ll see this year, etc.

Check out my list and holla atcho boy with yours, mmmmmmkay!

  1. Night Nurse – there’s something about Halloween that brings the naughtiness out of errone eh? Haha!
  2. Dog and Beth - I know this was soooo last year, but they are such unique characters and so easy to “dress up” as yeah?
  3. Guy with trench coat hiding something special - I have a hilarious pic of myself and this guy at Oceans years ago, but we won’t go there!
  4. Pimp – big afro wig, track suit, gold chains, planny of bling, and you’re good to go!
  5. Sarah Palin – Haven’t seen this one yet, but I bet there will be some who try to pull this one off this year. People hot in the news is always fun to go out as!

Happy Halloween and Aloha Friday folks! Be safe and have a nice, fun weekend k? And don’t drink too much or you’re gonna look like the below! :P Shoots!

Survey Thursday – Who Are You Voting for?

October 30th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Events, Honolulu Advertiser Posts, Random

* Who you goin vote for for President?

[What da heck is Survey Thursday?]

Now before you get all nuts, I do realize that politics is a touchy and personal subject for us all, so don’t feel obligated to voice your opinion here. I expect to either get very few responses or a record amount for WWE readers (which isn’t very much anyway! :P ).I was originally just going to post this amusing video a friend sent me (see link below) for today’s blog, but since it’s Survey Thursday, we might as well keep with tradition right? :)

“Obama’s Loss Traced To Ed Sugimoto”
(customized video)

Isn’t that video just the most hilarious thing ever? (The old lady cracked me up!) Amazing what technology can do nowadays… You can customize it yourself here.

And yes, I know it’s shmall kine propaganda aimed at getting us to vote for Obama, but the real reason why I posted this for you guys is the underlying message… Just Vote! At next week Tuesday’s General Election, don’t leave it to chance! Whoever you support, just vote, vote, VOTE!

This is Edward Sugimoto and I approve this message. :P

San Francisco Eats

October 28th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Food, Honolulu Advertiser Posts, Travel

Though the stay in Cali was not all that long, I was able to sneak in a few bites here and there. Here are some highlights yo:

I arrived the day of the wedding (congrats again Tommy and Margaret!), so there was really not much to do other than help with the last minute wedding errands. The soon-to-bes were nice enough to treat us to lunch (custom sandwiches) from a place called Specialty’s Cafe & Bakery. Though they do have numerous locations in California, Seattle and Chicago, we hit up the one closest to us at 3399 Bowers Ave in Santa Clara.

The next meal was actually at the wedding, so I didn’t really have much time to snap photos. I was able to sneak a shot at the venue’s pupu platter, which was served to the wedding party before we marched out to the reception area.

The Freedom Hall and Gardens was the site of the picturesque wedding, and, according to their web site, the dish was called the “Pre Buffet ‘Butler-Style’ Passed Hors d’oeuvres” (see menu). Awesome work guys. It was all delish on our empty, Heineken-only filled stomachs. *grin*

The next day, we made our way out to San Fran. For lunch, we ate at Crab House at Pier 39. A bit on the costly side for what you get, but we were hungry and wanted to rest our bones.

The “chowdah” was pretty good but the crab on top was cold. Then, as usual, my eyes were bigger than my stomach, so I ordered the medium Sizzling Iron Skillet-Roasted Mussels and Shrimp platter (see menu – PDF).

That evening, after checking out the Golden Gate Bridge, we went roaming around Chinatown. I looked up reviews on my phone for good Chinese Restaurants nearby and thanks to the power of Yelp, we discovered R & G Lounge Restaurant (see menu – PDF).

The eats was good, but the company throughout the entire trip was even better…

Talk to me!
* Have you eaten at any of these places (Specialty’s Cafe & Bakery, Freedom Hall and Gardens, Crab House at Pier 39, R & G Lounge Restaurant)?
* How’d you like it?
* Other San Francisco (Tr)Eats you’d like to share?
* A co-worker recommends Crustacean’s. Ever been?
* Where can you get a good bowl of “chowdah” here in the 808?
* How about good sandwiches or Chinese food for that matter?

Cali Oddities

October 27th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Honolulu Advertiser Posts, Random, Travel

I’m baaaaack! Was good kine fun seeing my buddy Tommy get hitched to a wonderful girl in Margaret. Had a great time in Santa Clara and San Fran, but now it’s back to reality. *sigh*

Here are a few oddities (differences), I’ve noticed when traveling to Cali (or mainland for that matter). Now that I’ve finally got a place to write/vent about it, I am! :P

  • The water sucks for drinking – Tastes like a pool (chlorine).
  • The water sucks for showering – Buggah stay hahd. Always feels like I’m slimy.
  • The ‘do gets flat – When I took off my hat (go Phillies!), the hair looked like someone ironed it to my head. (And you no can fluff um up!)  Haha!
  • My lips get dry – Chap Stick is a savoir!
  • Who does #2 work for? – kinda gross subjeck (sorry!), but I find that I gotta go #2 like CHOKE times! Ha-cum?

Where In Hawaii is Edward Sugimoto? – October 22, 2008

OK, so your boy blew it last week by neglecting to notice (and Photoshop out) the obvious “Jurison’s” left on the plate. Either way, HNL2LAS was the big winner (again), making that her second in three weeks! Congrats HNL2LAS!

This week, I made sure to double (AND TRIPLE) check the plate to make sure there were no markings giving the answer away. Not going be so easy dis time!

Point taken.

So let’s switch gears today to a yummy photo-filled post. Please be my friend and comment mmmkay? :P

The lady and I have been experiencing quite a bit of Açai around town for the last few months (here and here), so we decided that we’d give “home cookin’” it a try. Why not right? Here’s how we did!

Bridal Shower Mysteries

October 20th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Events, Honolulu Advertiser Posts, Random

So the woman went to another bridal shower this past weekend and was super stoked to see her homies for a much needed female bonding sesh. She came back with a bevy of interesting gifts from her girls (thanks ladies!), which led me to wonder what the heck happens at these blessed events? And more importantly, why we boys don’t get such a thing like a “Groomy Shower”? *grin* Not that I’m jealous (ok, just a little), but don’t you women also get bachelorette parties? Where’s the love?

And then it hit me.

Guys aren’t capable of having “Groomy Showers” for several reasons. Listed are the ones I could think of. Maybe you can think of others and add them to the comment area below?

  • Guys are lazy.
  • Guys are poor planners.
  • Party planning is too much work anyway.
  • One favor and centerpiece from the wedding is enough (it’s too much work to make these for another party).
  • Guys don’t want to buy gifts.
  • Guys don’t want to buy cards (which I’m told is necessary even though you bought a gift).
  • Guys don’t know, nor care, that much about each other (nobody will win that “who knows the groom best” contest)
  • Buying prizes for contest/quiz winners is way too much work.
  • Guys don’t want to play dress up with toilet paper
  • Gag gifts from guys would be 10 times worse.
  • Guys can only get the pass for one party, and you know we’re saving that for the bachelor party!
  • Guys are selfish – A “Groomy Shower” is just for the Groom. A bachelor party is for errone! *grin*

So wot? Did I hit it right on the head? Share the reasons why you think groomy showers don’t/won’t ever happen. Or, if you’re of the female kind, please fill us in on what happens at these wedding showers. Also, don’t forget to share why you yourself enjoy bridal showers… Holla!

Fave Five Friday – Favorite Hawaii Eateries

October 17th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Food, Honolulu Advertiser Posts, Random

I heard ya loud and clear yesterday. It’s shmall kine hard to pick just one favorite Hawaii food/product. And yeah, I could’ve been lazy and simply carried over the same question to today’s fave five, but you WWE readers deserve more than that! It’s TGIF after all. We needsta have our fun right!? Woo hoo! So instead of listing your Fave Five Hawaii foods (you can do that too if you like), let’s stay on the same theme of food and put the call out for your favorite Hawaii restaurants/eateries/hole-in-the-walls, etc.!

Hurr’s mine. Holla!

  4. Jewel or Juice - A recent addition to my list of faves. They have the best Acai Bowls in the State!
  5. I’m leaving this one blank ’cause I know I’m missing one… I’ll wait to see what you guys come up with and update with mine latahz.

My Fave Five Hawaii foods for good measure!

  2. Peanut Butter filled Mochi – from Home Maid Bakery in Maui
  3. Loco Moco – da bes’ to start your day during breakfast.
  4. Saimin – preferably from Shige’s
  5. Again, I’m leaving this one blank ’cause I know I’m missing somethin’.

P.S. I’m on vacay again today (yes, again), but be sure to keep postin’ even though it may look like you nevah. Hopefully, someone at the Advertiser can help me “release” the comments in the queue until I can get back to a computer. Happy Friday y’all and have a nice weekend k? Shoots!

The Sharing of Marriage

October 14th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Honolulu Advertiser Posts, Jokes

Here’s another funny one from the forwarded email collection:

The Sharing of Marriage…

An old man placed an order for one hamburger, French fries and a drink.

He unwrapped the plain hamburger and carefully cut it in half, placing one half in front of his wife.

He then carefully counted out the French fries, dividing them into two piles and neatly placed one pile in front of his wife.

He took a sip of the drink, his wife took a sip and then set the cup down between them. As he began to eat his few bites of hamburger, the people around them were looking over and whispering.

Obviously they were thinking, ‘That poor old couple – all they can afford is one meal for the two of them.’

As the man began to eat his fries a young man came to the table and politely offered to buy another meal for the old couple. The old man said, they were just fine – they were used to sharing everything.

People closer to the table noticed the little old lady hadn’t eaten a bite. She sat there watching her husband eat and occasionally taking turns sipping the drink.

Again, the young man came over and begged them to let him buy another meal for them. This time the old woman said ‘No, thank you, we are used to sharing everything.’

Finally, as the old man finished and was wiping his face neatly with the napkin, the young man again came over to the little old lady who had yet to eat a single bite of food and asked ‘What is it you are waiting for?’

She answered

(*pausing for you to catch on*)…

Hahaha! Wasn’t that a good one? I bet ya thought it was going to be a touching, sentimental ending. Did ya have tears in your eyes there for a while? So sorry!

Talk to me!
* What do you and wifey/hubby/bf/gf like to do together/share?
* Does it gross others out as well? :P

If ya wanna see your Hawaii or wedding related jokes up in hurr, feel free to send um on ova.

How Was Your Weekend Yo?

October 13th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Honolulu Advertiser Posts, Random

I’m on vacation today, but have magically queued up this post to go up automatically for me while I’m still asleep. Smahtcheah?

In my continuing effort to get us WWE readers to bond with each other, how about we post how our weekend went below? Give as little or as much detail as you like. Da rest of us can comment about it and start a dialog with each other. Funyeah?

I’ll go first.

Playing Nostradamus, I’ll try to guess how my weekend activities went! LOL!

  • Met with a potentially new accountant on Friday. With all the changes happening in my life these days, I don’t think the 1040EZ will cut it anymore. Ha!
  • Engagement photos were fun! They came out really nice! Haha!
  • The meeting with another possible minister went well. He was nice.
  • Made the return to jiu jitsu with the boys. Went 50% cause of my not-so-guaranz-yet jaw. Hope to get back full force again in 2009.
  • Went out with bruddah Dave folks to celebrate his going away party (to Hilo). Gonna miss dat boy.
  • Saw the gang at our combination Bridal/Groom shower. It was so nice to see errbody again!

I’m interested myself to see how close this will actually be. Haha!

K, man. Your turn yo! Share, share!
