Fun Day Monday: “Feminine Products”

This one’s a kinda combo platter kine post: Combination Survey Thursday & Fun Day Monday. Hopefully, you’ll participate as if it were both days, meaning double the comments. 8) *sigh* A fella can dream right? ;)

So a few weeks ago, a co-worker told me that the sign of true love is if a man buys his woman (for lack of a better word) “pads”. OK, sorry, “feminine products”… I’ve actually heard this several times before and was wondering why in the heck women always want their men to buy them ”pads” to prove their love?

Me? I’d rather not. I’m embarrassed enough to have to buy a risque magazine on my own… (That is, of course, if I were to even be that kind of sleazy pervert to begin with!) ;) Actually, I do have to confess. I did have to sleaze it up once when we bought a friend (who was getting married) a dirty magazine. Of course, we even threw in the obligatory pack of gum, as if it were going to throw the cashier off or somethin’. 8)

My co-worker then posed an interesting twist to this. Since her hubby does this for their daughter, she asked if I’d buy these wondrous products for my future daughter. Eeeeenteresting. That’s a tricky one, but I actually think I would. For some reason, that’s a different story. Strange eh?

So where you at? I’m curious to know where all of y’all stand on this topic. Here are the many combinations, depending on your sex and marital status: :P

* If you are a guy:
- Would you buy the FPs for your girlfriend (if you were single)?
- Would you buy the FPs for your wife (if you were married)?
- Would you buy the FPs for your future daughter?
- Have you ever bought the FPs for any girlfriend?
- Have you ever bought the FPs for your wife?
- Have you ever bought the FPs for your daughter?

* If you are a gal:
- Would you make your boyfriend buy you your FPs (if you were single)?
- Would you make your hubby buy you your FPs (if you were married)?
- Did you ever make any boyfriend buy you your FPs?
- Did you ever make your hubby buy you your FPs?
- Do you think this is a sign of true love? Why?

*Here’s mine:
- Would you buy the FPs for your girlfriend (if you were single)? Nope.
- Would you buy the FPs for your wife (if you were married)? Rather not.
- Would you buy the FPs for your future daughter? Perhaps.
- Have you ever bought the FPs for any girlfriend? Nope (thank the heavens!).
- Have you ever bought the FPs for your wife? Nope.
- Have you ever bought the FPs for your daughter? N/A

Whew! What a way to start the work week yeah? Someone’s gotta spice things up around here… :P Have a great week y’all!

Talk to me!
* Thoughts on Tiger Woods’ crash? Something’s fishy yeah?
* Any “New Moon” reviews out there (good or bad)?
* Other movies you wanna see? I kinda wanna see Ninja Assassin (though not a big fan of Rain playing the lead role) and This Is It.
* Thoughts on Adam Lambert’s AMA performance?
* Christmas plans? All set?

Holla!

Where In Hawaii is Edward Sugimoto? – November 25, 2009

Congrats to M for capturing his 3rd WIH victory last week by correctly guessing Cafe Laufer. Please help me share tha love with bruddah emmz. :)

This week, we’re gonna mix it up a bit to make things a lil’ more eeeenteresting. Since there are only a few known “hotspots” around the island of Lanai, I thought I’d make it a tad more challenging by offering up 4 cropped photos of the non-standard fare. Each photo will be worth 1 point, with the first guy or gal guessing all 4 correctly getting a whoppin’ 4 points! More chances for all to score points and move up da rankings. Smaht chyea? Hehe!

A-ight, so hurr we go. Good luck y’all!

Fun Day Monday: Free Transport from NAIA Airport

Happy Fun Day Monday y’all! This one was forwarded to me by my Filipino friend Glenn, so no get mad at me if you feel offended. Kay kuya.d and tita leerz? :P Meetcha at the bottom!

To my fellow Filipinos, Good news from GMA.

Starting January of 2010, Filipinos from all around the world will surely benefit from this one-of-a-kind service from the newly passed law by the government of the Philippines . The service is entitled Hatid Kabayan. Any Filipino who has lived in any part of the globe for more than six months is said to be entitled and will benefit from this service. As soon as he lands at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, go to a special booth that has been set up for this purpose and fill up some forms, and all he has to do is show his passport to confirm his  status abroad and everything is all set.

This also applies to all immigrants and non-immigrants.

Hatid Kabayan is a service where the Philippine Government has arranged a special ride for Filipinos from NAIA to any point in the Philippines or to any province. It will surely be a very memorable ride.

Hats off to GMA and the Philippine Government that in spite of this ongoing economic crisis, high fuel cost, perceived corruption, among others, they have managed to pay the returning Filipinos at least a respectable amount of gratitude and tribute for all their hard work abroad.

Specially-trained GMA employees will accommodate them and guarantee that they know every single route all across the Nation. So sit back and relax and let us be proud of what our Government can offer.

Below is the Hatid Kabayan on its Test Run. Mabuhay ang Plipinas!  Mabuhay si GMA!!!

Talk to me!
* Got any transportation horror stories to share?
* Good stories?

I have a few that include a taxi driver in San Antone with horrible B.O., a crazy, psycho shuttle van driver in Philly that almost got us into a beef (staring contest with other car sticking middle finger at us), and the mutes who don’t say a word to you. I guess that’s better than the motor mouths out there though. Hehe!

Have a great week guys!

Fave Friday: Mate Traits

Kay, I’m gonna get shmall kine heat for this one from the fellas out dea, but since it’s one year anniversary time for yours truly and the lady friend wifey, here’s a mushy topic for us to chat about today (sorry boyz!). :P

There’s a new song out on the radio by former American Idol finalist Jason Castro called “Let’s Just Fall In Love Again” (see video and lyrics below). It’s pretty catchy and, dare I say, cute (*cringe*), but more importantly, the lyrics teach us a nice little lesson about love and how to keep that fire a burnin’ with your mate of many years.

We’ve probably got peeps up in hurr who’ve been married for decades, newlyweds, and even the singles (heyyyy!) looking for love, so along those lines, let’s post our favorite traits of our mates for a fun little Fave Friday listing.

To all y’all singles, your job is funner. List the traits you traditionally look for in a future mate. And fellas, please use “Pager Talk” like 58008 if you’re gonna be pervy! Ahahahaha! Nah! Let’s do this!

  1. Cute (inside and out) - I may’ve mentioned this before, but a wise man (my friend) once told me: “Pretty is temporary, cute lasts forever.” Word.
  2. Supportive – whatever I wish to pursue (Tin Man, getting my real estate license, interviews with celebs, etc.) she’s always so supportive.
  3. Down – is always up for something fun and spontaneous (sports, new restaurants, etc.) and rarely monkus about it. Game for almost anything, as long as it’s with me. Awwww.
  4. Tries Hard – no matter what it is, she tries her best to improve and impress.
  5. Well Liked/Lovable – whether it’s my friends, family, co-workers, etc., she can get along with any of ‘em. And they all loooove her. At least that’s what they tell me. :P

Now for the fun list. If I were to put myself in the place of a single person, I’d probably look for the following:

  1. Smile - shows that they’re nice (usually).
  2. Honesty – liars are out like trout.
  3. Genuine - can’t stand fakeness.
  4. Thoughtfulness – shows that they’re interested in you.
  5. 58008 – Bwahahahahaha! Sorry, I just had to.

So what about you bu? No be shame ’cause remember, this post is mushy to begin with. :P Post away!

Jason Castro – Let’s Just Fall In Love Again

Let’s pretend baby
That you’ve just met me
And I’ve never seen you before
I’ll tell all my friends
That I think you’re starin’
And you say the same to yours

And oh, we’ll dance around it all night
And then I’ll follow you outside
And try to open up my mouth
And nothing comes out right

And I wanna fall in love with you again
I don’t have to try
It’s so easy
Who needs to pretend?
But because it’s so funny
Let’s just think about it honey
Let’s just fall in love again

I’ll call you in three days
Not too soon, not too late
And I’ll ask your roommate if you’re home
You call me on Thursday
And we’ll hang out all day
Then fall asleep on the phone

And oh, I’ll hold your hand when we drive
And we’ll lose track of all the time
And we’ll tell everyone
That we ain’t never felt so alive

And I wanna fall in love with you again
I don’t have to try
It’s so easy who needs to pretend?
But because it’s so funny
Let’s just think about it honey
Let’s just fall in love again

We’ll fall disgustingly fast
And we’ll stop hangin’ out with friends
And they’ll be so offended

And I wanna fall in love with you again
I don’t have to try
It’s so easy
Who needs to pretend?
But because it’s so funny
Let’s just think about it honey
Let’s just fall in love again

Let’s just fall in love again
So let’s just fall in love again

P.S. For anyone getting married soon, the song above is probably a cute little song for a wedding slideshow or the like. You heard it here first. You’re welcome! ;)
P.P.S. If you post something nice about your mate, and they give you a big fat smooch (or more?) as a result, you’re also welcome! :P

Happy VHO7V Friday! Have a good weekend y’all, and be sure to tell that special someone you love them! ;)

Where In Hawaii is Edward Sugimoto? – November 18, 2009

Thanks to hemajang’s generosity (with his submitted photo) and the Veterans Day holiday, it’s been almost a month since I’ve had to go through my archives to hunt for a WIH worthy photo. Wow, has it really been that long?

MakiSushi was on the verge of making WIH history :P by pulling off the back-to-back-to-back turkey, but was stumped with my Maui photo (sorry Maks! :( ). Local girl NeedaHobby, however, repped it valley style, and won with her Papalaua Beach Park guess on the wessssssiiiiiide of da island!

This week, we’re back to da eats. (Sorry my hungry children! ;) ) For those who’ve been, I’m guessing this one will be another easy one. But who knows… Maybe there are many places around the state dat serve sammiches dat look la’dis!? We shall see… Post your guesses below peeps!

Fave Friday – Products To Die For

Get it? To DIE for? Friday the 13th?

*waits a few seconds*

OK, so the correlation wasn’t that obvious, but what the hey, let’s have some fun (this beat is sick)!

So erry once in a while, this beautiful-gem-of-a-face (*barf*) gets a widdle flaw we like to call a pimple. Normally, I would just sit it out and wait ’til da buggah goes away. No problem.

Recently though, wifey introduced me to this gem-of-a-product (*no barf*) called On-the-Spot Acne Treatment from Neutrogena. Ever heard of/used it? At the first sign of a pimple (hummin’) comin’ atcha, you dab this stuff on it and poof, it disappears, mostly. Not too shabby if you ask me. They also have this one now called Rapid Clear, which is supposed to (I think) be newer/better.

Anybody else got any “to die for” products out there to share with the rest of us? It is Friday the 13th after all. ;)

Happy VHO7V Friday! Have a great weekend and I’ll see y’all next week!

P.S. If anyone wants 2 9th row tickets to tonight’s UH Bball game, comment “Go Bows!” below and they’re yours! I can’t make it. :( The only catch is that you gotta come getum from me cause I gotta work all day. 8) Shoots!

Fun Day Monday: The Koala and the Little Lizard

Howzit! How was errryone’s weekend? We’ll start y’all out this week with a little giggle, forwarded to me by a friend/colleague. Enjoy, and I’ll meetcha at the bottom! :)

The Koala and the Little Lizard

A koala is sitting up a gumtree smoking a joint when a little lizard walks past and looks up and says “Hey Koala ! what are you doing?”

The Koala and the Little Lizard

The koala says: “Smoking a joint, come up and have some.”

So the little lizard climbs up and sits next to the koala and they have a few joints.

After a while the little lizard says his mouth is dry and is going to get a drink from the river.

But the little lizard is so stoned that he leans too far over and falls into the river.

A crocodile sees this and swims over to the little lizard and helps him to the side, then asks the little lizard: “What’s the matter with you?”

The little lizard explains to the crocodile that he was sitting smoking a joint with the koala in the tree, got too stoned and then fell into the river while taking a drink.

The crocodile says he has to check this out and walks into the rain forest, finds the tree where the koala is sitting finishing a joint, and he looks up and says “Hey you!”

The Koala and the Little Lizard

So the koala looks down at him and says

The Koala and the Little Lizard

“Duuuuuuude…….how much water did you drink?!!”

LOL! Pretty funny yeah?

Did you ever have a d’uh moment like this? Not necessarily a “stoned” moment, because I know none of us would ever take a hit (or two) from a joint, 8) but just, you know, a little double-take action. Like you were thinking one thing, but saw another. Use the comment area below to share your story.

Have a great week and for those of you who are off on Wednesday (Veteran’s Day), we’ll see you back here on Friday. Shooooots!

The Droid Experience

Just waking up in the morning gotta thank God
I don’t know but today seems kinda odd
No barking from the dog, no smog
And momma cooked the breakfast with no hog

Ok, so it wasn’t quite like how Ice Cube rapped it, but “today was like one of those fly dreams” and definitely “A Good Day“. 8)

Why you axe? Welp, this morning, the much anticipated Motorola Droid was released to the public through Verizon Wireless, and, like every other nerd out there, I found myself standing in line, waiting to get mine.

Billed as the iPhone killer (watch iDont commercial here), this smartphone attacks and addresses all of the iPhone’s shortcomings. Being a non-AT&T Wireless sub and a Google and open source fiend, I literally NEEDED it. It’s running the newest Android 2.0 OS (the first phone with it) and has neat features like seamless Gmail and Facebook integration as well as free navigation via Google maps. I literally just got it, so I didn’t have much time to play with it yet, but here are a few quick tips/things I learned in this short time. Perhaps it’ll help some of y’all out.

Ed’s Tips/Notes:

* Not sure how crowded the other stores are, but the Pearl Highlands one I went to was not too bad. They opened at 7AM, and when I got there at about 6:30, there were only 4 people ahead of me. The woman at the front of the line said she got there at 5:15 with the next guy coming at 6:15. Before the doors opened, there were just about 15-20 of us (including couples). From what I heard, Verizon had 200 in stock, so if you get down there now, you should be ok.

The line outside Verizon Wireless at about 6:45AM
The line outside Verizon Wireless at about 6:45AM

* The phone itself is $199 ($299 with a $100 mail-in rebate). With the Snap-On Gel Cover ($16.99), expect to pay over $300 out the door.

* With this phone, you must upgrade to a $29.99 data plan (if you didn’t already have it). I was coming from an enV Touch with a $15 VZW Mobile Web plan/package, so it was about double. It made me think about it for a split second, but for the extra goodies and the Wi-Fi action, I think it’s worth it.

* If you’re used to slim (narrow) phones, this one’s pretty wide. Compared to my Touch, it’s a beast. Gonna be interesting to see how it fits/feels in my pocket.

The Motorola Droid next to the LG enV Touch

* To keep the phone as slim (flat) as possible, the QWERTY keypad was built pretty flat. If you have big hands (like me), it may take some getting used to.

* The Snap-On Gel Cover may also feel like it’s getting in the way sometimes, so using it would be up to personal preference.

* The camera’s a bit tricky to get used to (accessing, saving, sharing, etc.), but once you get the hang of it, the 5 megapixel camera takes pretty good shots. Here’s a pic my friend/co-worker Maribel using the Droid in artificial light.

* Even though you have VZW backup enabled, you must still manually import your contacts into your Droid (via Gmail). You actually download the CSV file from verizonwireless.com/backupassistant, and then import it into your contact list in Gmail. If you have tons of contacts in your Gmail account and tons of numbers in your addressbook (from your old phone), it could get a little messy. I still have yet to check what it did to my dupes (it said it merged them). Yikes!

Big ups to Tara Reyna from the Pearl Highlands Verizon Wireless store. She’s really helpful and smart, so go see her a-ight? For more information on the Droid, go to DroidDoes.com or visit Motorola’s consumer page here.

All in all, it was mos def, A Good Day;)

Where In Hawaii is Edward Sugimoto? – November 4, 2009

First off, I’d like to send mad props to bruddah hemajang who was responsible for last week’s WIH stumping photo that garnered 70 comments. Yeah E YEAH! Second, mad respect to bruddah MakiSushi for becoming just the 5th person in WIH history to win back-to-back kine action (especially impressive as these were his first wins ever) after guessing Sam & Syd’s Cafe. Can he become the first to capture that elusive turkey this week?

This week’s photo comes to us courtesy of the beautiful island of Maui. I did some shmall kine “Photoshop-ping” to the sign (see below) so it’s not so obvious, but I’m pretty sure one of y’all will get it anyway. To make things a lil’ more interesting between guesses (and to boost the comment count of course! ;) ), post your favorite things (food, beaches, shops, etc.) about Maui too. Holla!

Koko Head Crater Trail Hike – Nature’s Stairmaster

A sudden increase in the amount of Koko Head trail “tweets” and “status updates” lately prompted me to rearrange the sched – just a tad – and dig up some old images to pen this article. Who knows? After I’m pau, maybe I can jump on the ol’ bandwagon and send out a sweet tweet myself.

Back in April, Mark and Noele (friends of wifey and I), wanted to do something outdoorsy. An easy hike perhaps. Growing up in Hawaii Kai, I suggested the Koko Head Crater trail hike (pu’u ma’i), figuring stairs and a straight path shouldn’t be too bad for the three out-of-towners. Right? :P

At first glance, the beginning of the trail is a bit tricky to find. You have to make your way through a hidden, mini trail behind the left field fence of the Mustang/Pony league baseball field.

That eventually leads to a paved road, which is the end of Koko Head Park Road, I believe.

Follow that, and you’ll get to the grassy portion that leads to the trailhead…

Still with lots of energy

… which leads to the beginning of the infamous Koko Head “steps”…

Believe me, this energy will not last. There are approximately 1,100 “steps” on the trail so before long, the four of us will be sporting very different looks on our faces…

The “steps” are actually part of an abandoned railroad track that was once used by the military to transport supplies to a lookout shelter at the top.

Continuing a bit more, the energy will drain, but you’ll start to get a good view of your surroundings…

Noele drained, Mark still ok, and wifey somewhere in between.

Looking southeast, the shooting range that caused the controversial closing of this trail comes into sight.

To the Northwest, you’ll see the beauty that is Hawaii Kai. :)

Continuing on, yet more energy is expended, but you’ll find solace in knowing that you’re about halfway there.

How do we know we’re about halfway? The dreaded bridge. Dun-dun DUN!

Yup yup, that’s no illusion. The bottom drops out from under the “steps” and forms a bridge-like path in the middle of the trail.

Some sure-footed hikers choose to walk over it, while others (of the fraidy cat kind) opt to crawl.

Ed’s Tip: For those who’d like to avoid the bridge altogether, there is actually a makeshift path that goes around the bridge to the right (left on the way down).

Once you conquer the bridge (dun-dun DUN!), it’s much of the same, but steeper.

With several shaded areas here, this would be a good opportunity to get out of the sun and catch your breath, drink some fluids or hurl up your breakfast. I won’t name any names. *grin*

Ed’s Tip: don’t be fooled into thinking that that was “it”… Once you catch your breath, follow the somewhat hidden trail that wraps around to the right to discover an immaculate view of the other side of Koko Head. What a beautiful sight from about 1208 feet above sea level!

Ed’s Tip: As the winds are very strong up here, it’s a nice place to cool off, but watch your footing and be careful at the same time.

Here, you’ll also find an abandoned military shelter, which makes for a great place to rest…

Going down is a breeze. Depending on the step and the length of your leg (and your knees and your athleticism :P ), you could literally jog/run down the stairs.

Ed’s Tip: I would recommend leaning on the side of caution and taking a nice, leisure pace. Sure, you’re excited to be pau and want to get going sooner than later, but if you run down the stairs, your momentum will really take you and it becomes difficult to stop.

Before long, we’re already at the halfway point of the bridge (dun-dun-DUN!). The ladies decided to “cheat” and take the side path. 8)

Once recovered, we did what any other akamai local does after a workout to refresh: Shave Ice! Good thing Kokonuts Shave Ice & Snacks (the one that Barack Obama made famous) is at nearby Koko Marina Shopping Center.
