Something Like a Phenomenon [Guest Blog by JMAW]

JMAW
by JMAW

Something like a phenomenon describes the types of experiences I have had in rapid succession in recent months. Wait, time out, pause. Let me give you my disclaimer. The words I write are the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but yeah yeah yeah you get the point.

I’m a spiritual person. I used to say that to describe how I was interested in the greater unknown and the what-if’s and trying to explain what the heck I was experiencing.

I’m sensitive. Or intuitive. Yeah yeah to that too because you say that and most people give you funny kine looks.

I’m a soul having a human experience. I like this a bit more because it seems to help to explain everything that I’ve experienced in my life up until this point. Some people see dead people. Not me, I am clairaudient; I hear people and I’m hearing something that differs from the normal inner monologue that takes place. I’ve taken what I’ve heard and shared the messages with people in tarot readings (I’ve even read Professional Psychics, what a trip that was), conversation (with myself, just kidding, with others fo’reals), and so on.

Now this is just the tip of the iceberg to what I have experienced with the ethereal dimensions. And the Psychological community would be the first to tell you that I am schizophrenic or suffer from some other disorder. I don’t consider what I’ve experienced suffering (and I am not on any type of drugs, prescription or otherwise). So how does one explain this phenomenon?

I guess I can only look at it from my view and say if anything, these “spiritual” or “intuitive” experiences are liberating and alleviate the suffering I felt growing up in a fragmented society where there is a huge void in the caring department.

Now why blog about this? I don’t really know. Ed said to write about something that would get people talking. If there’s one thing I’ve learned from my guides, it is that when people read something like this, well, it addresses the unknown, something within that recognizes its own.

Maybe I’m more open than most to this type of thing. Maybe I’m crazy. But in a mad world, is being sane a good thing? What do you WWE fans think? What type of “spiritual” or “intuitive” or otherwise experiences have you had?

JMAW is a life sojourner just trying to make sense of it all in this episode of his journey. For musings, poetry, and other writing visit www.thesimplevoice.com. To discuss “spiritual” type of things or if your interested in a reading contact thesimplevoice@gmail.com.

Karate Kid

Given the latest events happening around us as of late (e.g. purchase of the Advertiser, tsunami worries, etc.), heaven knows we’re in need of a “Fun Day Monday” up in hurr. But instead of my usual silly nonsense, let’s do a little sumthin’ sumthin’ that most of us can agree is actually entertaining: movies. :P

In June, Sony pictures is releasing a remade version of the cult classic Karate Kid. Check it:

Karate Kid (2010)

Whatchu t’ink? Personally, it looks pretty ridiculous. Though the music and editing and epic scenery makes it look somewhat watchable, it’s not even close to being interesting to me. Not only is Jaden Smith (Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith’s son) and Jackie Chan totally unbelievable (in a bad way) in their respective roles, I’m still not even sure why they used the name “Karate” Kid because they are using Kung Fu as the martial art. Am I alone on this? Do you guys actually wanna see this?

Now, here’s a looksee at the O.G. Karate Kid trailer:

Karate Kid (1984)

Still a bit dramatized and Hollywood-ish, but at least it’s a little more believable. Definitely a must watch and makes me wish it was never redone.

Talk to me!
* Do you think the original Karate Kid is a must-see cult classic?
* Favorite line from Karate Kid? (here’s some help)
* Are you interested in watching the new Karate Kid movie?
* What are some old movies you’d love to see redone?
* Which actors would you hire to play what roles?

Please help me say a prayer for all Advertiser and Star Bulletin employees in this unsure time of theirs. In the meantime, have a great week all, and check out my latest AroundHawaii article (which included a visit to the United Fishing Agency Honolulu Fish Auction):

Having a Bad Day?

Having a bad day? Whaaat? No can! It’s only Monday! But seriously, if you eez, then here are some funnies to help bring a smile to your face. Enjoy!

Feeling unappreciated? World got you down?

Worker dead at desk for five days
Worker dead at desk for five days

Things Got Ya Down? Well Then, Consider These …

In a hospital’s Intensive Care Unit, patients always died in the same bed, on Sunday morning, at about 11AM, regardless of their medical condition. This puzzled the doctors and some even thought it had something to do with the super natural. No one could solve the mystery as to why the deaths occurred around 11AM Sunday, so a worldwide team of experts was assembled to investigate the cause of the incidents. The next Sunday morning, a few minutes before 11AM, all of the doctors and nurses nervously waited outside the ward to see for themselves what the terrible phenomenon was all about. Some were holding wooden crosses, prayer books, and other holy objects to ward off the evil spirits. Just when the clock struck 11:00, the part-time Sunday sweeper entered the ward and unplugged the life support system so he could use the vacuum cleaner.

Still Having a Bad Day?

The average cost of rehabilitating a seal after the Exxon Valdez oil spill in Alaska was $80,000.00. At a special ceremony, two of the most expensively saved animals were being released back into the wild amid cheers and applause from onlookers. A minute later, in full view, a killer whale ate them both.

Still think you are having a Bad Day?

A woman came home to find her husband in the kitchen shaking frantically, almost in a dancing frenzy, with some kind of wire running from his waist towards the electric kettle. Intending to jolt him away from the deadly current, she whacked him with a handy plank of wood, breaking his arm in two places. Up to that moment, he had been happily listening to his Walkman.

Are Ya OK Now? – No?

Two animal rights defenders were protesting the cruelty of sending pigs to a slaughterhouse in Bonn, Germany Suddenly, all two thousand pigs broke loose and escaped through a broken fence, stampeding madly. The two helpless protesters were trampled to death.

What? STILL having a Bad Day?

An Iraqi terrorist didn’t pay enough postage on a letter bomb. It came back with ‘Return to Sender’ stamped on it. Forgetting it was the bomb; he opened it and was blown to bits. God is Good!

There now, Feeling Better? I know I am, LOL***

There. Did that help to turn that frown upside-down? I hope so. Have a great week y’all!

Talk to me!
* Which story above made you laugh the most?
* Got any other funnies to add?
* You liking the Olympics so far? Almost pau! What has been your fave moment so far?
* With the holiday last week Monday and this today, how much are you missing our “Photography at the Right Angle” caption contests? :P What? Not much? Too bad, they’re makin’ a comeback next week! ;)

Photography at the Right Angle – Caption Contest (5 of 23)

Another Monday… Yep, another photo caption contest. Just 19 more to go gang! LOL!

There were a lot that made me crack up last week, like bB’s “stop……….don’t turn around……….give me your wallet” and our lovely Rosette’s “ARGH HE FARTED!” but I went with skycastles’ “Eeeek!!! Spider . . . get it, get it!! Omigod, omigod, omigod!” for the creativity (and acting skills :P ). Congrats skizzai! ;)

I know y’all will have some hilarious (and gross?) ones for this week. Have at it!

OK, so these Photography at the Right Angle caption contests have not exactly been errry week as advertised, but I think it’s a-ight. Changes da pace just a little no? But since you’ve been so desperately dying/begging for it (secretly in your deep sleep :P ), we be bringin’ it back for the third week.

Before then, however, I’d like to take the time to congratumalate Dave for his amusing caption for week 2’s photo: “Eh? No can hear. Got beer in my ear.” Applicable, and memory inducing, all with a lil’ bit o’ local flair. Props Dave!

So here’s this week’s photo. Might be fun for all y’all animal lovers too. (Poor dog, I hope he/she doesn’t think the kiddies are real! ;) ).

Handbook for 2010

I know, I know… This ain’t the “Photography at the Right Angle” caption contest we’re supposed to have for the next 20+ Mondays (LOL!), but I thought this was important enough to try and get out in the beginning of the year. Yeah, yeah, it’s already the 11th day into the new year… So sorry yeah!? Bettah late than nevah right? 8) Anyway, go checkum go, and I’ll meetcha at the bottom.

Handbook for 2010:

HEALTH:
01. Drink plenty of water.
02. Eat breakfast like a king/queen, lunch like a prince/princess & dinner like a beggar.
03. Live with the 3 E’s – Energy, Enthusiasm & Empathy.
04. Make time to meditate.
05. Play more games.
06. Read more books than you did in 2009.
07. Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day.
08. Sleep for 7 hours.
09. Take a 10-30 minutes walk daily. And while you walk, smile.

PERSONALITY:
10. Don’t over do. Keep your limits.
11. Don’t take yourself so serious. No one else does.
12. Don’t waste your precious energy on gossip
13. Dream more while you are awake.
14. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.
15. Forget issues of the past. Don’t remind your partner with his/her mistakes of the past. That will ruin your present happiness.
16. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone. Don’t hate others.
17. Make peace with your past so it won’t spoil the present.
18. No one is in charge of your happiness except you.
19. Smile & laugh more.
20. You don’t have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

SOCIETY:
21. Call your family often.
22. Each day give something good to others.
23. Forgive everyone for everything.
24. Spend more time w/people over the age of 70 & under the age of 6.
25. Try to make at least three people smile each day.
26. What other people think of you is none of your business.

LIFE:
27. Do the right thing!
28. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
29. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up & show up.
30. The best is yet to come.

Talk to me!
* Which is your favorite one?
* Which is one you’d like to work on the most this year?
* Did you make any resolutions of your own this year? Share, share!

Here’s mine:

* Which is your favorite one?
I have a few: Don’t waste your precious energy on gossip (#12), Dream more while you are awake (#13), and What other people think of you is none of your business (#26). I think gossip is such a waste of energy. Dream while you are awake is a good one! And for #26, just be yourself. Who cares what other people think.

* Which is one you’d like to work on the most this year?
“Eat breakfast like a king/queen, lunch like a prince/princess & dinner like a beggar” (#2). I always tell myself to eat breakfast (cause I always hear that it’s the most important meal of the day), but never seem to be able to stick to it. I do want to eat a smaller dinner too. The “Read more books than you did in 2009 (#6)” one is pretty funny too cause that would be duck soup for me. I just have to read one! ;)

* Did you make any resolutions of your own this year? Share, share!
I’m getting a little soft in certain areas, so I wanna start getting back into shape. Joined a “body fat” losing competition with my friends, so it’s soooo on! I want my “Team Jacob” abs back! 8)

Have a great week y’all!

Photography at the Right Angle – Caption Contest (1 of 23)

Our beloved tita leerz forwarded a funny email to me recently that included 23 images, all shot at amusing camera angles. Initially, I was just gonna do a lil’ cut and paste ack-shon and show all 23 images here at once, but with the popularity of last week’s WIH contest, that included a caption contest, and my eternal greed hunger for planny comment 8) , I thought it might be fun to spread these photos out over the next 23 weeks (yeah, you can’t get rid of me! :P ) and have a caption contest each week. Sound good? Let’s give it a whirl shall we?

Fun Day Monday: “Feminine Products”

This one’s a kinda combo platter kine post: Combination Survey Thursday & Fun Day Monday. Hopefully, you’ll participate as if it were both days, meaning double the comments. 8) *sigh* A fella can dream right? ;)

So a few weeks ago, a co-worker told me that the sign of true love is if a man buys his woman (for lack of a better word) “pads”. OK, sorry, “feminine products”… I’ve actually heard this several times before and was wondering why in the heck women always want their men to buy them ”pads” to prove their love?

Me? I’d rather not. I’m embarrassed enough to have to buy a risque magazine on my own… (That is, of course, if I were to even be that kind of sleazy pervert to begin with!) ;) Actually, I do have to confess. I did have to sleaze it up once when we bought a friend (who was getting married) a dirty magazine. Of course, we even threw in the obligatory pack of gum, as if it were going to throw the cashier off or somethin’. 8)

My co-worker then posed an interesting twist to this. Since her hubby does this for their daughter, she asked if I’d buy these wondrous products for my future daughter. Eeeeenteresting. That’s a tricky one, but I actually think I would. For some reason, that’s a different story. Strange eh?

So where you at? I’m curious to know where all of y’all stand on this topic. Here are the many combinations, depending on your sex and marital status: :P

* If you are a guy:
- Would you buy the FPs for your girlfriend (if you were single)?
- Would you buy the FPs for your wife (if you were married)?
- Would you buy the FPs for your future daughter?
- Have you ever bought the FPs for any girlfriend?
- Have you ever bought the FPs for your wife?
- Have you ever bought the FPs for your daughter?

* If you are a gal:
- Would you make your boyfriend buy you your FPs (if you were single)?
- Would you make your hubby buy you your FPs (if you were married)?
- Did you ever make any boyfriend buy you your FPs?
- Did you ever make your hubby buy you your FPs?
- Do you think this is a sign of true love? Why?

*Here’s mine:
- Would you buy the FPs for your girlfriend (if you were single)? Nope.
- Would you buy the FPs for your wife (if you were married)? Rather not.
- Would you buy the FPs for your future daughter? Perhaps.
- Have you ever bought the FPs for any girlfriend? Nope (thank the heavens!).
- Have you ever bought the FPs for your wife? Nope.
- Have you ever bought the FPs for your daughter? N/A

Whew! What a way to start the work week yeah? Someone’s gotta spice things up around here… :P Have a great week y’all!

Talk to me!
* Thoughts on Tiger Woods’ crash? Something’s fishy yeah?
* Any “New Moon” reviews out there (good or bad)?
* Other movies you wanna see? I kinda wanna see Ninja Assassin (though not a big fan of Rain playing the lead role) and This Is It.
* Thoughts on Adam Lambert’s AMA performance?
* Christmas plans? All set?

Holla!

Fun Day Monday: Free Transport from NAIA Airport

Happy Fun Day Monday y’all! This one was forwarded to me by my Filipino friend Glenn, so no get mad at me if you feel offended. Kay kuya.d and tita leerz? :P Meetcha at the bottom!

To my fellow Filipinos, Good news from GMA.

Starting January of 2010, Filipinos from all around the world will surely benefit from this one-of-a-kind service from the newly passed law by the government of the Philippines . The service is entitled Hatid Kabayan. Any Filipino who has lived in any part of the globe for more than six months is said to be entitled and will benefit from this service. As soon as he lands at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, go to a special booth that has been set up for this purpose and fill up some forms, and all he has to do is show his passport to confirm his  status abroad and everything is all set.

This also applies to all immigrants and non-immigrants.

Hatid Kabayan is a service where the Philippine Government has arranged a special ride for Filipinos from NAIA to any point in the Philippines or to any province. It will surely be a very memorable ride.

Hats off to GMA and the Philippine Government that in spite of this ongoing economic crisis, high fuel cost, perceived corruption, among others, they have managed to pay the returning Filipinos at least a respectable amount of gratitude and tribute for all their hard work abroad.

Specially-trained GMA employees will accommodate them and guarantee that they know every single route all across the Nation. So sit back and relax and let us be proud of what our Government can offer.

Below is the Hatid Kabayan on its Test Run. Mabuhay ang Plipinas!  Mabuhay si GMA!!!

Talk to me!
* Got any transportation horror stories to share?
* Good stories?

I have a few that include a taxi driver in San Antone with horrible B.O., a crazy, psycho shuttle van driver in Philly that almost got us into a beef (staring contest with other car sticking middle finger at us), and the mutes who don’t say a word to you. I guess that’s better than the motor mouths out there though. Hehe!

Have a great week guys!

OK, so for those of you who don’t know, today marks the start of Restaurant Week Hawaii, where restaurants from around Oahu create menus at special rates and donate a portion of their proceeds to benefit the development of The Culinary Institute of the Pacific. On another note, some of you may’ve heard that the lady friend and I will be celebrating our one year wedding anniversary soon. (and noooo! that’s not what I meant by “Serious Grindage” you pervs! :P ) I will be taking her to _______ (shh! even SHE doesn’t know yet! :P ), but could use some additional suggestions and tips on where to take her and what to get her. Sorry, I’m a guy. :P

So using the above two news items as today’s theme, send me some suggestions for your restaurant (and your favorite dishes from that restaurant) of choice for this special 1 year anniversary occasion (click here for the list of participating restaurants for Restaurant Week Hawaii). Bonus points for those who gimme good, non-food related, gift ideas. ;) Have a great week y’all! :)

Fun Day Monday: The Koala and the Little Lizard

Howzit! How was errryone’s weekend? We’ll start y’all out this week with a little giggle, forwarded to me by a friend/colleague. Enjoy, and I’ll meetcha at the bottom! :)

The Koala and the Little Lizard

A koala is sitting up a gumtree smoking a joint when a little lizard walks past and looks up and says “Hey Koala ! what are you doing?”

The Koala and the Little Lizard

The koala says: “Smoking a joint, come up and have some.”

So the little lizard climbs up and sits next to the koala and they have a few joints.

After a while the little lizard says his mouth is dry and is going to get a drink from the river.

But the little lizard is so stoned that he leans too far over and falls into the river.

A crocodile sees this and swims over to the little lizard and helps him to the side, then asks the little lizard: “What’s the matter with you?”

The little lizard explains to the crocodile that he was sitting smoking a joint with the koala in the tree, got too stoned and then fell into the river while taking a drink.

The crocodile says he has to check this out and walks into the rain forest, finds the tree where the koala is sitting finishing a joint, and he looks up and says “Hey you!”

The Koala and the Little Lizard

So the koala looks down at him and says

The Koala and the Little Lizard

“Duuuuuuude…….how much water did you drink?!!”

LOL! Pretty funny yeah?

Did you ever have a d’uh moment like this? Not necessarily a “stoned” moment, because I know none of us would ever take a hit (or two) from a joint, 8) but just, you know, a little double-take action. Like you were thinking one thing, but saw another. Use the comment area below to share your story.

Have a great week and for those of you who are off on Wednesday (Veteran’s Day), we’ll see you back here on Friday. Shooooots!
