Rebound Relationships?

Since it’s News Day Tuesday, we’ll take a closer look at one of the items recently reported in the news: Jon Gosselin has a new girlfriend.

Bruddah was married with 8 kids not too long ago. How’s dat one?

I’ll save you from reading and let you guys chime in on some of the suggested items listed below or others you’d like to dish on.

Talk to me!
* Was their marriage doomed to begin with?
* Do you think the show played a part in their break-up?
* Is it Kate’s fault?
* What about the poor kids?
* Was he cheating on Kate?
* What is an OK timeframe for him (or anyone) to move on to a new relationship?
* Have you ever (or know of anyone who has) rebounded from one relationship to the next?
* Any truth to the theory that Rebound Relationships never work?
* How about the theory that some girls rebound from one relationship to the next because they can never be alone?

Fave Five Friday: Reality Show Couples

So it was recently reported that Jon and Kate Gosselin have filed for divorce. Gee, who saw that one coming?

Along those lines, we’ll go with that theme for this week’s Fave Five blog: Fave Five Reality Show Couples. I needs ta be honest though. I’m more excited to fill out the least fave list. Let’s see what we come up with shall we?

Fave Five Reality Show Couples:

  1. Flavor Flav + Anyone- you gotsta love his passion and honesty for trying to find true love on “Flavor of Love.” And, although he’s admirably decided to stay with his baby’s mama following the 3rd and last season, a part of me still wants him to keep going. Can’t get enough of that guy man! LOL!
  2. Travis Barker + Shanna Moakler – although they’ve had a lot of drama following them in the news, I was a fan of their show “Meet the Barkers” back in the day.
  3. Nick Lachey + Jessica Simpson – how can you not like both of them? They seemed to be nice peoples, at least individually… Maybe their life timing was just not right? I secretly wouldn’t mind seeing them get back together and film another season of “Newlyweds”. 8)
  4. New York + Tailor Made - I don’t really like Tailor Made, but he and New York (Tiffany Pollard) were like the most unlikely of couples, so “I Love New York” was just fun to watch. Like a train wreck I couldn’t look away from. :P
  5. Jeff Conaway + Vikki Lizzi – one word: dysfunctional. Not sure why I wasted hours of my life watching “Celebrity Rehab” but they were also fun/ridiculous to watch.

Bottom Five Reality Show Couples:

  1. Spencer Pratt + Heidi Montag - these two are number 1 on the hated list and won’t ever get overtaken. Why does anyone even care what they’re up to? I have no clue. Gotta hand it to Spencer for his decent marketing skills though.
  2. Jon Gosselin + Kate Gosselin – again… who cares!?
  3. Britney Spears and Kevin Federline – ditto
  4. Christopher Knight + Adrianne Curry – again…
  5. Audrina and Justin-Bobby – need I say more?

If making your list proves too challenging, feel free to just dish/vent about any of the above (or others you love/despise).

Happy VHO7V Friday y’all! Have a good weekend! I’m off to Alaska (Bon Voyage!), but be sure to check in for some exciting blogs ahead:

Where In Hawaii is Edward Sugimoto? – May 20, 2009

A-ightch’all! I know it’s Where In Hawaii Wednesday, but we gotsta dish American Idol right quick. What did you think of last night’s performance? Who did you think did better? How did you have your round by round scoring? Who do you think will take it all? Who do you WANT to take it all?

Overall, I thought it was a so-so show. I anticipated Adam Lambert to have that “moment”, but he really didn’t. Kris Allen’s first two songs were pretty smoove, but his 3rd one left something to be desired. Actually, I think both of their 3rd songs were let downs. There were moments in Adam’s performances when I started growing tired of it (his style). Still trying to figgah out who will sell more records, and my vote is still with Allison Iraheta. :P

Now… on to tha bidness at hand… Where In Hawaii yo!

Last week’s pic was supposed to be a hard one, but yet again, you buggahs never cease to amaze me. Syxx was just the second person to chime in, and, low and behold, got it. What the!?!? I’m hoping that this week’s one will pose a slight problem for at least the first 3 of you, :P but if I were a guessin’ man, I’d bet that it’s gonna be another easy one. We shall see…

Survey Thursday – Do You Facebook?

* Do you Facebook? If not where do you call (social networking) “home”?

Lately, the old older peeps here at work have been asking me about this strange new thing called “Facebook.” As the resident “Web Expert” I guess I’m the go to guy for these types of questions and boy, have they been a-comin’! First I smirk (at how late they are to the party) and then I proceed to explain to these newbies what it’s all about. How you use it, why people use it, privacy concerns, etc. The look on their face is priceless. It’s the same as that of someone who just watched TV in color for the first time. (at least I think that’s what they looked like. :P )

Facebook, at least to me, is where it’s at. There are so many features to control privacy, friends, microblogging/notifications (ala Twitter), and, as evident by the interest from the old older peeps here at work, it’s catching wind. I’ve gotten back in touch from old friends from yesteryear that I haven’t spoken to in years, and all the company and corporate peers are there as well! There are so many more relevant people up in thurr than say a MySpace. If I had to compare the two, I’d tell someone that MySpace is more for kids and ‘tweens and Facebook is more for adults. (No, not that kind of “adult” you perv. ;) )

There is a downside though. With so many of your professional contacts up in the heezy, you really have to watch what you say and post. It’s not like I have anything to hide really, but posting that drunken party pic from the weekend (I don’t do this – just an example) is probably not something for your boss’ eyes. I’ve heard of stories of those kinda things coming back to haunt employees, and that doesn’t really surprise me.

How did we get to this point? I remember the good ol’ days when these social networking type sites were strictly for us “young” peeps? Let’s turn back the clock a bit shall we… Remember these?

Chat/Talk on UH’s Unix system –> HCU –> Asian Avenue –> IM/Messenger type services (AIM/Windows Live/Yahoo!/Google Talk) –> Friendster –> LinkedIn –> MySpace –> Facebook

Oh YEAH! I bet ya forgot about some of those gems eh? Ha!

And that doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of what other sites are out there (Yelp, Flickr, TwitterBebo, Hi5, YouTube, and yes, we even have one on AroundHawaii.com).

Is there something after Facebook? Probably, but for now, this is where the party’s at yo. Holla if ya hear me! ;)

Talk to me!
* Do you Yahoo! Facebook?
* If so, how many friends ya got?
* Do you add anyone or just the people you know IRL?
* Are your bosses or company’s executives on there too?
* What’s your favorite part about Facebook?
* Your least favorite?
* What other social networking sites do you frequent?
* If you’ve never joined Facebook or any other social networking site, why or why not?

Possible Hijacking Topics :P
* American Idol dish
* Hell’s Kitchen dish
* The Office dish
* Survivor: Tocantins dish
* CSI dish
* Grey’s Anatomy dish
* Harper’s Island dish
* Southland dish
* Dancing With the Stars dish
* The Biggest Loser dish
* Lost dish

* etc.

Happy Survey Thursday… Woo Hoo it’s almost TGI(F)F!

Holding Hands

Recently, a friend of mine broke the awkward barrier and held hands with a mutual friend, and it made me think back to that first hand holding moment. The uneasiness right before, the feeling of nervousness during, and the “what the heck were we waiting for?” sensation from there going forward.

Boys and girls are odd creatures, and we’re all at fault. We play the game of: I’m not interested, ok maybe a little, but not too much, but maybe I should show a bit more. It’s a back and forth chess match until, finally, one side says “screw this, I’m going in for the kill!” And more than likely, it’s the boy that has to take action ain’t it?

Why is that?

My theory is that you women don’t want to come off as “easy” or the aggressor. True?

And what’s up with the chicken boys who never make the moves? I still blame it on the girl. That’s right! They don’t drop da hints enough or give the right signs for us tigers to be able to pounce. LOL!

And then there’s the opposite side of the spectrum. The flirty broads or the playa-wannabe donkeys who hold hands with just about anyone and everyone they can get their grubby paws on. They don’t even wait for da signs and just chanceum! Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Not even sure which is worse. :\

So what’s the moral of the story?

Shy ladies (hAAaaaaay!), if you want us boys to hold your hands, hollla.
Shy fellas (ho ho!), if you want to hold a girl’s hand, wait for a sign and just do it.
Flirty broads and playa-wannabes, no comment.

To my friends, who are the subject of this blog, I hope you’re not reading this and if you are, peace on earth, and good will to all. :P

Talk to me!
* Did this blog make any sense whatsoever? Ahahaha!
* How was your first hand holding experience? And second? And third? And fourth? ;)
* If you are a girl, do you wait for the guy to make the first move? Even if you REALLY like him?
* What kind of hints do you send to show him you’re interested?

Use Caution When Dialing Certain Area Codes

It’s News Day Tuesday, so here’s another in the series of WWE edumacation. This one’s on Area Code (dialing) safety. Yeah, I know, I know… these aren’t so popular in the comments department, but as long as I can help a handful of you peeps out with some of these, I’m satisfied.

Do Not DIAL AREA CODE 809, 284, AND 876

This is very important information provided to us by AT&T. Don’t ever dial area code 809.

This one is being distributed all over the U.S. This is pretty scary, especially given the way they try to get you to call.

Be sure you read this and pass it on.

They get you to call by telling you that it is information about a family member who has been ill or to tell you someone has been arrested, died, or to let you know you have won a wonderful prize, etc.

In each case, you are told to call the 809 number right away… Since there are so many new area codes these days, people unknowingly return these calls.

If you call from the U.S., you will apparently be charged $2425 per-minute.

Or, you’ll get a long recorded message. The point is they will try to keep you on the phone as long as possible to increase the charges.

WHY IT WORKS:

The 809 area code is located in the Dominican Republic. The charges afterward can become a real nightmare. That’s because you did actually make the call. If you complain, both your local phone company and your long distance carrier will not want to get involved and will most likely tell you that they are simply providing the billing for the foreign company. You’ll end up dealing with a foreign company that argues they have done nothing wrong.

Please forward this entire message to your friends, family and colleagues to help them become aware of this scam.

AT&T VERIFIES IT’S TRUE:
http://www.att.com/gen/press-room?pid=6045

SNOPES VERIFIES IT’S TRUE:

* Sneaky yeah?
* How about unc uji UNC Tarheels yesterday? Pretty dominating eh?

* Dish on The Hills? Nah, I nevah saw um. Probably might have to with wifey tomorrow though. Hehe!
* The big winners at the 44th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards on Sunday were Brad Paisley, Carrie Underwood, Sugarland and Rascal Flatts. What’s new eh? Any country music fans out thurr?

News Day Tuesday: Kitchen Fire 411

A-ightchall, here’s a little 411 on how to deal with grease fires in your kitchen. Logic tells us that we should shoot down a fire with water, but in the case of grease fires, the WORST thing to do is to use water. This is due to the fact that when the water comes in contact with the superheated grease, it will immediately vaporize, expanding and carrying more grease particles with it, causing the rate of combustion to dramatically increase and flare up.

Now some of you may already know this, so please bear with us. This is for those of us not yet in the know, and that’s the hope of today’s blog: to help educate our WWE `ohana and keep us all (and our neighbors) safe.

Check out the video below let me/us know what you think.

Here’s a link to a more graphic, to-the-point video. (WARNING: Very Graphic, chicken skin kine)

If talking about grease fires is not your bag on this News Day Tuesday, feel free to dish on any of the topics below, the ones that will inevitably be suggested by kuya.d and tita leerz folks :P or any other topic you wish.

* Dancing with the Stars last night
* NBA’s ridiculous decision to release green, shamrock/clover infested L.A. Lakers apparel (ala rival Boston Celtics)

90s Is the New 80s

Dear 1980s, I would like to announce – here and now – that you are on borrowed time. With the peeps who can relate to you getting up in age (yea, I said it!), your 15 minutes of fame is almost up. ‘Twas fun while it lasted though yeah?

OK, so I’m not exactly non-80s. I was born somewhere in the 70s actually (zip your lip!) But, while the craze of the 80s was a bumpin’, I was still early in childhood development in elementary school. Other than breakdancing and the Atari game system, your boy can’t relate much to the other “popular” (and expensive) trends like the Members Only jacket, Jelly shoes, slap bracelets, big hair, anything Lycra or neon (or both), mostly because I didn’t have spending money (and, I was a male! :P ).

So really, I am a product of the 90s culture and fashion. Hear me roar! Hehe!

Did you know that the 90s brought us some of the following life-changing winners?:

* The first show in (contemporary) reality TV format
* Major advances in video game play
* The mobile phone explosion
* The first, publicly available HDTV
* And, oh, this little thing called the Internet

You’re welcome 80s lovers. Beats PONG* shmall kine don’t it? *grin*

However, on the flip side, I had absolutely nothing to do with the following 90s gems:

* Beverly Hills 90210
* NKOTB (New Kids On the Block for those of you not in the know)
* Vanilla Ice
* Milli Vanilli
* O.J. Simpson

Apologies 80s lovers. :P

A-ight, that’s enough nonsense for one day. But before I let you go, leaving you wondering what the heck the point of this blog was, here’s an explanation:

This is actually a lil’ taste of a new game we’re gonna play up in hurr on Fridays called “Flashback Friday.” I’ll give y’all a topic from yesteryear (80s, 90s or otherwise), and we’ll discuss amongst ourselves (until we’re not so verklempt). Be sure to check in then (and every other day for that matter) to join in on the tantalizing discussions, ya hear?

Mahalos to all you new readers who found your way here via my ugly mug in today’s Sunday paper. Hopefully, you’ll be back. Mad props also to the regular WWE commenters and readers/lurkers. Shoots! Have a good Sunday and I’ll see y’all on the flip side! Payce.

* Yes, I know PONG actually came out in the 70s you history Nazis. :P

News Day Tuesday: January 20, 2009

Lots goin’ on in the world out dea folks.

We can talk about the obvious, like Bruddah Barack’s historic inauguration today (congrats Barack!), but we all know errbody and their mama will be talking about that up in hurr.

Lessee, we can gossip about American Idol, which will air its 3rd and 4th shows of the season today and tomorrow… but things won’t start gettin’ juicy until they go to Hollywood.

Or how about Tadd Fujikawa’s amazing Sony Open story? How he not only made the cut, but hung with the big boys and finished tied for 32nd!

We can even go old school and chit chat about MMA again. Affliction’s 2nd show, entitled “Day of Reckoning,” pits MMA deity Fedor Emelianenko against hard hitting, former UFC heavyweight champ Andrei Arlovski this weekend.

Or what about Super Bowl talks, now that the two unlikely teams – The Arizona Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Steelers – have been decided?

But why pick just one? It’s News Day Tuesday aftah all! How bout’ you decide which topic you wanna talk about and have at it. You can even pick your own newsworthy topic (not mentioned here) and gossip away. Holla! :)

I’ll start… and yeah, since I brought um all up, I’ll talk about um all.

* Barack Obama Inauguration

It’s gonna be another busy day at work, but I’ll try to sneak a peek every once in a while to catch history in the making. I’ll also be recording it at home. Doesn’t hurt that bruddah has ties to Hawaii and we claim him as our own. :)

* American Idol, Season 8

I used to be an avid fan, but the bad auditions are starting to get to me. I almost just want them to get to Hollywood already and get on with the show with the good singers. It’s been good to see many cultures and backgrounds getting through so far. Hopefully the diversity continues…

* Tadd Fujikawa at the Sony Open

I was there in 07 when Tadd burst onto the scene so it’s nice to see that he’s still holding it down. Bruddah’s not a one hit wonder. He’s in it to win it baby and ya just gotsta admire that! Goooo Tadd!

* Affliction Day or Reckoning

Top to bottom, this is yet another insane card, but for some reason, I’m not sure I have the urge to order it. Their first card was lukewarm for me, so I’m just afraid it will be the same. Ah, we’ll see. Really interested to see: Fedor vs. Arlovski (obviously!), Barnett vs. Yvel, Horodecki vs. Lauzon, Baby Fedor (Sidellnikov), Matyushenko, and Bao Quach.

* Super Bowl XLIII: Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Arizona Cardinals

Talk about a snoozefest. Nah, I guess the Warner story is a good one, but I wish the teams were a little more exciting. I’ll be in Vegas that weekend, but will probably go snowboarding instead of watching the game. *yawn* If I had to pick one, I’d go with ‘Zona.

The Ultimate Fighter Season 8 Debuts Tomorrow Night!

Are you as excited as I am for tomorrow night gang?

It’s the premiere of the 8th season of The Ultimate Fighter, tagged as Team Nogueira vs. Team Mir. Yes, it’s been 8 seasons since Forrest Griffin’s and Stephan Bonnar’s historic fight that (re-)started it all. Not much has really changed as far as editing and format, but there’s just something about this show that has me glued.

I can honestly say that I’d probably watch the 600th season of this damn show. As long as they keep showing it, I’ll keep a’ watching. Are you in the same boat as me or do you think the show is getting old already? If so, what do you think they need to do to spice it up? I think Mir will make things interesting for the kids, but Nogueira, I’m not too sure.

Hawaii’s got another guy to root for this season: 24 year old Shane Nelson from BJ Penn’s MMA team in Hilo. Don’t really know much about him, but here’s a video I dug up on Youtube. Aside from the booger that was bothering him (in BOTH nostrils no less!) *grin* , he looks like a scrapper. Good luck this season Shane! We’ll be rooting for ya!

* The Ultimate Fighter: Team Nogueira vs. Team Mir: Wednesday, September 17, 2008 @ 7PM on Spike TV (Oceanic Digital Channel 0559). Don’t forget to also catch a new UFC Fight Night (Nate Diaz vs. Josh Neer) at 5PM preceding TUF.

Talk to Me!
