Açai in Ha-wa-ii - Part II

Monday, September 1, 2008 – 12:01 am
And... I'm spent! Ho, for you guys, I travel the globe (State actually) and boy are my arms tired. Yeah, bad joke. But seriously, I do this to bring all y'all the best in Hawaii's eats. You're welcome! ;P I actually don't mind it at all though. Me loves to eat, travel, take photos and write, so as you can guess, this combination is right up my alley. The last two months of stuffing my face with Açai was actually a nice little treat to my tummy. So I, instead, thank YOU. :) With that longest-intro-in-history out of the way, let's get going shall we? Lanikai Juice Located in the Kailua Shopping Center in the heart of Kailua town, this smoothie joint has been a long time favorite of many Kailuans. Eventually, word got out and its popularity now stretches further than 96734. My softball team conveniently has its games at nearby Kailua District Park, so ...

Wedding Stamps

Friday, August 29, 2008 – 12:00 am
So yesterday I was assigned the task of picking up the femme-looking stamps from the Post Office. Our envelope was a bit heavier than the $0.42 standard, so I had to think on my feet and decide which $0.59 stamp (or combination) to get. A yellow heart, a sunflower or a picture of a ram. The guy in me wanted to go ram, but I made the smarter decision and went the safer route: yellow heart. *grin* Did you fellas out thurr know that postage would cost so dang much!? WTH? Including the ones we needed for the insde, the grand total came out to $109.40. If it weren't for the gas prices these days, I would've tried to save money by hand delivering every single invitation... and then waiting for the person to fill it out before leaving! Haha! OK, so I'm not that cheap, but seriously... over $100 just ...

Google Auto-Complete

Thursday, August 28, 2008 – 12:00 am
Since I'm like, in the industry, and the title of this blog is "World Wide Ed" for Pete's sake, I thought I'd post a computer/web related post for the first time in months/years. (Sorry, the Hawaii/food/travel related stuff is so much more fun! :P ). Recently (or coincidentally after I cleared my browser cache for the first time in years *blush*), Google activated their Auto-Complete feature to the general public on search terms entered into the search box on Google.com. It's nuthin' new. SEO (Search Engine Optimization) experts have been using tools like this to optimize their sites with relevant keywords. But it's interesting to play with don'tcha think? Try it yourself! Go to Google.com and enter any search term you desire. Suddenly it starts to sense what you're typing and attempts to auto-complete your phrase, complete with how many sites/results there are out there based on that search string. Naturally, I had ...

Fantasy Football Draft Results

Tuesday, August 26, 2008 – 12:00 am
So we're 4 picks away from completing our Fantasy Football Draft for this year. Hallelujah! There are 10 of us and it's taking painfully loooong. Since we couldn't find a good time when all of us could meet up for a live, draft party, we decided to do the ol' standy, the convenient method of drafting electronically. This year's product of choice: a spreadsheet in Google Docs (where you can trash talk/chat right in the spreadsheet window... priceless!). Trouble is, many of us work or have a life on the weekends, so you end up getting lost in the draft process. The call or text message from the person drafting before you inevitably comes, and is followed by a "Wait what? What happened? Who got picked after me?" This rigamarole repeats itself 18 times until the completion of the draft. After my last pick, there was a defensive run in the 13th and 14th rounds: Brian ...

Hawaii Does It Again: Waipio Takes the Little League World Series!

Monday, August 25, 2008 – 7:59 am
Our boys from Waipio took the Little League World Series yesterday by beating Mexico in the decisive Championship Game. This was their second in 4 years, the last taken by Ewa Beach in 2005 (read my previous blog about it). What an exciting time it must be for these boys and their families. I remember how excited I was to take champs in our little Wai Kahala little league, but this is on such a grander scale. The entire state of Hawaii (and USA for that matter) is cheering you on. TVs everywhere, a stadium of that magnitude. Woah. Definitely something they can tell their grandkids one day... Where were you when this historic moment occurred? How did you react? I had to go to a party, but before we left the house, we watched as much as we could. Then, I set my trusty DVR to capture the rest. Thankfully, ...

Fave Five Friday - Hawaii Athletes

Friday, August 22, 2008 – 7:59 am
With all of the Olympic hysteria going on (and the lack of comments from my Kauai related posts :P ), I'll switch it up a bit for this week's Fave Five list to include an Olympic star from Hawaii: Bryan Clay. Clay captured gold in the decathlon this year, the last American to do so since Dan O'Brien did it in Atlanta in 1996. Anytime a local boy (or girl) does good, it makes me proud to call Hawaii my home. Here's my current list of fave Hawaii Athletes. BJ Penn - the ultimate bad @$$ in MMA. His stand-up is wicked and his ground game is off the chain. He is regularly mentioned when a "best pound for pound fighter" debate occurs and is easily in the top 10 of best MMA fighters of all time. The best part is that he stays humble and always recognizes Hawaii in everything he ...

Wednesday, August 20, 2008 – 12:00 am
Continuing with our Kauai theme, this week's "Where in Hawaii" Wednesday photo is coming to you from the beautiful Garden Isle of Kauai. I won't make it as difficult/obscure as some of our past photos, but I'm hoping it'll still be enough of a challenge for all y'all. So without further ado, here's this week's photo: Where In Hawaii is Edward Sugimoto? - August 20, 2008 Comment your guesses below. First one with the correct answer gets their name in "lights" on the official "Where in Hawaii" Winnahz list. Excited? Post away den! :) Have a Happy Hump Day yo...

EATS! - Kauaian Style - Part II

Tuesday, August 19, 2008 – 12:00 am
Part 2 in our Kauaian Style EATS segment leads us to Kauai Chocolate, aboard Holoholo Charters, and Hamura's Saimin. Let's get on it! While waiting to board our sunset catamaran tour, we stopped at Kauai Chocolate Company near Port Allen for a lil' snack. I'm not a big sweets person, but the immense chocolate smell that enters your nasal passages when you walk in the door hypnotizes you. Kauai Chocolate Company's Selection More of Kauai Chocolate Company's Selection Then it was "all aboard" Holoholo Charters for the Na Pali Coast Sunset tour. Motion sickness almost got the best of me, but a couple of beers and a little mental toughness ;) allowed me to pull through and enjoy their "heavy pupus" meal. Caesar's Salad, veggies, bread and some fruits My plate, which included the above in addition to some kinda quiche What's a trip to Kauai without mentioning the ever-popular Hamura's Saimin? Not exactly my favorite, but ...

EATS! - Kauaian Style - Part I

Monday, August 18, 2008 – 12:00 am
OK, I've got issues. 427 pictures and videos in just 4 short days on Kauai... I need help. But my issues = your gain cause we'll get to embark on the second adventure of EATS (Ed Ate Tasty Stuffs)! Ya ready? So right off the bat, we head southwest towards Kalaheo. We first stop by a vendor's office to drop off some famous Apple Napples from Zippy's, then kill time in the area by going on a mini hike at _____________ park and the nearby town of ________________. Crud! Sorry folks... I forgot that if I name these places, a future edition of "Where in Hawaii" would be ruined. LOL! Just use your imagination with me won'tcha? ;) In any case, we head back to Kalaheo and arrive at a favorite of many: Brick Oven Pizza, some of the best damn pizza you'll ever eat. Super Pizza from Brick Oven Pizza We ordered the popular ...

Wednesday, August 13, 2008 – 12:01 am

Like Biggie Smalls, I'm going going back back to Cali Cali Kauai Kauai (or LL Cool J's Going Back to Cali, Cali, Cali, for you old schoolers :P ) from tomorrow and wanted to get some advice from you Kauai pros out there. I'll be checking in on this blog during my trip so send some good kine, spontaneous fun and I'll go check um out if can. Spanish Basketball Team Picture - Racist?

Wednesday, August 13, 2008 – 12:00 am
So my friend just forwarded me this article: Spanish basketball team poses for offensive picture, which shows the Spanish Basketball Team posing for a team picture, while slanting their eyes with their hands. I'm still baffled by it and trying to figure out why they would do such a thing. Personally, I'm pretty offended, but I wanted to send a feeler out there and see what you all out there thought of it as well. Post your comments below...
