Photography at the Right Angle – Caption Contest (5 of 23)

February 1st, 2010 | 1 Comment | Posted in Food, Fun Day Monday, Hawaii, Honolulu Advertiser Posts, Jokes

Another Monday… Yep, another photo caption contest. Just 19 more to go gang! LOL!

There were a lot that made me crack up last week, like bB’s “stop……….don’t turn around……….give me your wallet” and our lovely Rosette’s “ARGH HE FARTED!” but I went with skycastles’ “Eeeek!!! Spider . . . get it, get it!! Omigod, omigod, omigod!” for the creativity (and acting skills :P ). Congrats skizzai! ;)

I know y’all will have some hilarious (and gross?) ones for this week. Have at it!

Photography at the Right Angle – Caption Contest (3 of 23)

January 18th, 2010 | 1 Comment | Posted in Fun Day Monday, Honolulu Advertiser Posts

OK, so these Photography at the Right Angle caption contests have not exactly been errry week as advertised, but I think it’s a-ight. Changes da pace just a little no? But since you’ve been so desperately dying/begging for it (secretly in your deep sleep :P ), we be bringin’ it back for the third week.

Before then, however, I’d like to take the time to congratumalate Dave for his amusing caption for week 2’s photo: “Eh? No can hear. Got beer in my ear.” Applicable, and memory inducing, all with a lil’ bit o’ local flair. Props Dave!

So here’s this week’s photo. Might be fun for all y’all animal lovers too. (Poor dog, I hope he/she doesn’t think the kiddies are real! ;) ).

Photography at the Right Angle – Caption Contest (1 of 23)

December 14th, 2009 | 4 Comments | Posted in Fun Day Monday, Honolulu Advertiser Posts

Our beloved tita leerz forwarded a funny email to me recently that included 23 images, all shot at amusing camera angles. Initially, I was just gonna do a lil’ cut and paste ack-shon and show all 23 images here at once, but with the popularity of last week’s WIH contest, that included a caption contest, and my eternal greed hunger for planny comment 8) , I thought it might be fun to spread these photos out over the next 23 weeks (yeah, you can’t get rid of me! :P ) and have a caption contest each week. Sound good? Let’s give it a whirl shall we?

Guest Blog: Family Reunions: Characters Wanted [tita leerz]

July 2nd, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Hawaii, Honolulu Advertiser Posts, Random

First of all, mahalo much to Bruddah Ed for allowing me the honor to share my brain’s sporadic moments of mentalness! Man, this is harder than I thought. Anyways, so I was watching WWE wrestling the other night on USA and you know how they have that add, “Characters Wanted?” Well, that made the light bulb go on in my head! I thought, I am related to A LOT of characters. I’m sure all of you can relate cuz every family has at least one. If you can’t think of any members resembling some of mine, think again, it might just be you!

I have an Uncle “Frankie” (shout out to frankie!):  He’s like his name. Frank. His wise @ssness is a welcomed and refreshing ball of fun! He’s so free ken hee larry yus that you just wanna sit and talk story with him all night! Once in a while, you are also able to add your own  two cents into the pot of mental and sometimes politically incorrect conversations. Admit it. It’s what makes roasting marshmallows fun! Like me, his muse is his family. He can usually be heard making fun of the aunties mentioned below.

I not Hawaiian but Aunty Baling-Baling got da bracelets going all da way up her arm like she’s Wondah Woman! I swear, she could deflect any and all bullets coming at her in a drive by. If you in da wrong part of da hood, she’s da one you use as a shield, not Uncle Bla-lah. She clang clang so much. You know she just loves the attention. But in the back of my head, all her clang clang just reminds me of how my dogs’ tags go clang clang when they come running at meal time. I’ve also noticed that Aunty Bling is not the prettiest  aunty in the bunch. I wonder if she blings out to compensate. She’s also the same aunty who wears tight, COUGAR print clothes and forgets that she has back fat.

I also have an Aunty Carrie Yokie. Yes, she’s the one who thinks she coulddah been a contendah…on American Idol. Remember, I’m Filipino. We all can sing! NOT!  She wants to be the next Jasmine. Aunty sings…has a few good notes…then she TRIES Whitney! OH HECK NO! Now, I want to turn on the garden hose and shoot her down like that neighbor’s cat in heat sitting on your fence who is screeching all night long! Why, oh why, does she think that little karaoke microphone can transform the sound from her throat into heavenly tunes?

Oh, and you got the aunty who needs NO microphone. We got 100 people at the reunion and, because we’re Filipino, it just gets INSANELY loud! We’ve had PA systems in the past but if the MC is too slow, Aunty Big Mout will just make the announcement for you. And so happen, whatever comes out her mout, is usually incorrect. Like Aunty Carrie, I tink she just likes da sound of her own voice. Her husband can usually be found somewhere in a dark corner, cringing at the sound of her voice and cuddling with a little green bottle that would be considered contraband at said event. Uncle Shame can usually be found with Uncle Mo Shame and Uncle So Shame,  the husbands of Aunty Carry and Aunty Bling.

I also have an Uncle Nurse.  He likes to push ALL the cousins into the profession. I don’t think he realizes we can’t all be nurses. Some of my other cousins not so smart, you know what I mean? But really, some of us need to be lawyers and doctors. Over the years, we’ve learned to just avoid conversations with him. It’s hello and good bye. Never, under any circumstances, ask him an open ened question! It will always end up with him trying to get you to change majors or go back to school and do something God didn’t give you the passion for. No, he’s not a nurse, himself.  He used to be a teacher in the Philippines. No one really knows what he does now.

Then, there’s the grammy who grew pakalolo just cuz it was a pretty plant. Or so she says. She would tell us how happy it made her when she took care of her plant and pruned off the dried leaves. Nana Maria also has a sister who had a pakalolo plant. Or a few. But Nana Juana was akamai and knew that she could profit from this commodity of a plant which her sister was not aware of. Nana Lolo never had a job when she moved to Hawaii. Which is why cousins laugh when they realized the source of their weekly allowances from their grams was from illegal tradings!

And last but certainly not the least. There’s the cousin who is so irritating like a little yappy chihuahua, you just wanna slap him and tape his mouth shut! Cousin Ete is sometimes one in the same as the cousin who whines soo much you just wanna kick him around a little just for fun…or at least until his oloz drop.

Think me brutal? Well, friends, I KNOW YOU WAS LAFFING! Yes, this is what makes up a part of my family. Mind you, we purposely don’t serve alcohol at our reunion functions. But, at the end of the day, I think I would not have it any other way. Because, if my family dynamic was anything less, reunions would just be too boring! And, thank the Heavens, I have a family that I can love and make fun of! So, share with the rest of us your stories of your family dynamics. Give us a good laugh that will hold us over this long holiday weekend! Happy 4th everyone. And a special shout out to all those, past and present, who’ve fought and still fight for this great country of ours!

Fave Five Friday: Reality Show Couples

So it was recently reported that Jon and Kate Gosselin have filed for divorce. Gee, who saw that one coming?

Along those lines, we’ll go with that theme for this week’s Fave Five blog: Fave Five Reality Show Couples. I needs ta be honest though. I’m more excited to fill out the least fave list. Let’s see what we come up with shall we?

Fave Five Reality Show Couples:

  1. Flavor Flav + Anyone- you gotsta love his passion and honesty for trying to find true love on “Flavor of Love.” And, although he’s admirably decided to stay with his baby’s mama following the 3rd and last season, a part of me still wants him to keep going. Can’t get enough of that guy man! LOL!
  2. Travis Barker + Shanna Moakler – although they’ve had a lot of drama following them in the news, I was a fan of their show “Meet the Barkers” back in the day.
  3. Nick Lachey + Jessica Simpson – how can you not like both of them? They seemed to be nice peoples, at least individually… Maybe their life timing was just not right? I secretly wouldn’t mind seeing them get back together and film another season of “Newlyweds”. 8)
  4. New York + Tailor Made - I don’t really like Tailor Made, but he and New York (Tiffany Pollard) were like the most unlikely of couples, so “I Love New York” was just fun to watch. Like a train wreck I couldn’t look away from. :P
  5. Jeff Conaway + Vikki Lizzi – one word: dysfunctional. Not sure why I wasted hours of my life watching “Celebrity Rehab” but they were also fun/ridiculous to watch.

Bottom Five Reality Show Couples:

  1. Spencer Pratt + Heidi Montag - these two are number 1 on the hated list and won’t ever get overtaken. Why does anyone even care what they’re up to? I have no clue. Gotta hand it to Spencer for his decent marketing skills though.
  2. Jon Gosselin + Kate Gosselin – again… who cares!?
  3. Britney Spears and Kevin Federline – ditto
  4. Christopher Knight + Adrianne Curry – again…
  5. Audrina and Justin-Bobby – need I say more?

If making your list proves too challenging, feel free to just dish/vent about any of the above (or others you love/despise).

Happy VHO7V Friday y’all! Have a good weekend! I’m off to Alaska (Bon Voyage!), but be sure to check in for some exciting blogs ahead:

* Monday, June 29“BJ Penn Answers Your Questions! [Video]“- Remember the questions you guys submitted for BJ Penn last month? I caught Bruddah BJ on tape answering those questions! This one will be promo’d on the front page of the physical paper as well. Support the ’tiser and pick up a copy k?
* Tuesday, June 30- Sistah NeedaHobby holds it down with a blog of her own called “Is It Any Wonder?”, featuring convo and video clips of those one hit wonders we love from yesteryear.

Happy Birthday to WWE-eeeeee!

A year ago to the day, the world was fortunately unfortunately exposed to the mind of me, and I hereby apologize.

You see, the peeps at the ’tiser opened thangs up for me in the backend *snicker* and shortly thereafter, the first ever World Wide Ed blog (to the Advertiser community) – simply entitled “Aloooooha!” – was born (in the USA)!

Things were slow at first, as I tried to find my place amongst the big dogs *woof WOOF* like Stephen Tsai’s “The Warrior Beat,” and Catherine Toth’s “The Daily Dish,” but eventually, I found my virtual footing and carved a cozy little niche out for myself and you fun, faithful readers.

Hoooo! I can’t believe it’s already been a year! *wipes away Visine induced tears* As some of you mentioned in yesterday’s blog, time really does fly when you’re having fun eh? It still amazes me that there were THAT many topics to write about on the daily. Sure, I did miss a few days here and thurr due to travel, holidays, and a little thing called a wedding, but for the most part, I was pretty on top of it wouldn’t ya say?

In fact, if my math is correct (and don’t truss’ me ’cause I suck at math), I probably wrote about 261 posts, give or take a few.

365 (days in the year)
- 104 (weekend days)
—————————————–
= 261 actual week days of possible WWE blogs

OK, I checked out our backend *snicker* and saw that I actually posted 200 fitty blogs! (I tol’ you my math sucks!) Either way, I think that’s quite a feat if I do say so myself. *bends over and waits for a pat on the back* (*snicker*) In theory, if I continue this blog on that torrid pace for the next 30 years of my life, I would’ve bored you to tears with 7,500 posts! Seventy five HUNNY!

Scurred?

Don’t be.

It’ll be all good in the ‘hood going forward. Trust.

I think I’m finally getting the hang of this. No more posts about nails, my broken mandible or MMA. I heard you (or rather, I didn’t hear you at all in the comments) loud and clear. Jeez, and it only took me a year to finally get it! Ha!

Mahalos to each and errry one of you for reading. E Komo Mai to those coming by way of seeing my spooky face in today’s paper. Whether you’re new and this is your first hit of WWE, or you need to be sent to WWEA pretty soon, I send mad love to you! Please continue to read and post your feedback in the comment area. That’s really what keeps me going. I love reading and interacting with the `ohana we got goin’ on here. You guys are the ones who make this blog fun for me! Keep it up yo!

Talk to me (Help a brutha improve WWE)!

* What was your favorite post?

* What was your least favorite post?

* What do you want to see more of? Less of? (Be honest, I can takeum!)

* What’s missing?

* How can I improve?

* What prompts you to want to comment/participate?

* Hints for future posts?

* Some of your favorite WWE memories/highlights of the last year?

* What’s the biggest thing that happened to you in the last year?

* What do you hope to do in the next year?

Here are my answers. Post yours below k?

* What was your favorite post? – The Fun Day Monday: You Know You’re Local If… post cause we made triple digit history with that one son! LOL!

* Hints for future posts? – Yes please. 8)

* Some of your favorite WWE memories/highlights of the last year? – the appearance and disappearance and reappearance of Chicken Grease (he was actually my first ever commenter, and it was a positive one at that. In fact, it was so good that it jump started my drive to make this place good), giving away free movie passes to readers like JMAW, Miss Priss, and liane, talking high school supremacy shmack with frankie, celebrating the Phillies’ World Series victory with uncle jimmy, starting and growing the Where in Hawaii series (and being flattered by a few copycats 8) ), scratching my head at Helen’s ridiculous comments, the funny wedding jokes and videos like the Best Man Blunder Video, making up nicknames for all of you, the thank yous for my periodic PSA posts, the turning point from single digit daily comment counts to double digit daily comment counts (woo hoo!), assigning roles (hunter, chef, law enforcement, etc.) on our desert island, the birth of Scott’s boy, standing up to tita leerz (and getting pwned! in the process), brightening the start of your work week with Fun Day Mondays, getting my blogs hijacked for totally unrelated topics :P , the moderation bot’s strange rules/flags, kuya.d’s successful “Prom Songs” guest post, the “Good Morning”’s from M, the lowdown from the female perspective from snow, NeedaHobby, skycastles, kako_mochi, kate, YN and mcat, the sage lecturing advice from hemajang, MakiSushi, Coconut Willy, Kage and Kel Sr. (and jr.), the humor of Ynaku, bB, and rayboyjr, the periodic appearances of Dave, Syxx, BananaFysh, S Ticket, che, zzzzzz, Lose Money, soogs, miLL-viLLe, EMM386, HNL2LAS, Paco, Takeshi, MoOgooGuypAN, L, and Bre, being the first ’tiser blogger to break the Susan Boyle story, collecting names for our future WWE Fantasy Football league, seeing new faces come out of lurk mode, learning what VHO7V meant, and much more! Keep the memories a-comin’!

* What’s the biggest thing that happened to you in the last year? – Hands down, da big dance, fo shizzle.

* What do you hope to do in the next year? – Plan and take an RV trip, interview more Hawaii celebs (BJ Penn, Shane Victorino, Colbie Caillat, holla atcho boy!), etc.

Thanks again for sticking with me for the last year. Here’s to another 7,250 or so y’all (yeah, I used a calculator for that one… whut!?)! Hehe, Shooooots!
